The “Three Lochs Way” is a long walking route north of Glasgow. The route runs from Balloch to Inveruglas, which is 55 kilometres (34 miles) to the north. The route is indicated with small signs. When you leave Balloch station you walk over Ben Bouie, a hill of 313 meters, to Helensburgh.

Helensburgh is on the north bank of the Firth of Clyde and on the east bank of the entrance to Gare Loch, about 40 km north of Glasgow. Up to Helensburgh the “Three Lochs Way” route is the same as the John Muir way.

Just beyond Helensburgh the Scottish Highlands start and you arrive at a military training ground. Camping is not allowed here and the route along the American Road has cost me a large part of the day. When there is a training course this area will be closed.

Follow the route over the mountain pass in the direction of Target. From this sandy path it is also possible to descend to the small town of Arrochar. From this road you had beautiful views of the beautiful lakes.

The final route runs from Target to Inveruglas. Inveruglas is really no more than a bus stop. The description of the organization stated that you should put your name here in the “Three Lochs Way Achievement Book”. Only that book was taken two years ago by the previous owner and nowhere to be found.

If you yourself have plans to do something similar. Below I have a few tips: I had 3.5 liters of water with me and needed a tap with clean drinking water every day. Surface water contains potentially harmful bacteria. I made a little more hot food the day before and kept it on the road. In addition, I had enough food with me. Make sure that you are not dependent on the internet or telephone, since you can be without a reach for half a day. At times there are a lot of small flies (locals talk about midgets), DEET helps against this very well.
